Giving up smoking and weight gain |
Gaining weight is one of the major psychological hurdles among [people who want to quit smoking. Cigarettes, according to surveys, are helpful in controlling your weight. But researches have not found any reason behind why smokers weight less compared to non-smokers. There are several reasons which can result in gaining weight once to leave smoking. One of them is the chemistry between nicotine and metabolism. As nicotine has both stimulating and sedative power, it ensures the rush of adrenaline. As a result, glycogen is released from liver. Hence, sugar level in blood is elevated slightly. Once nicotine is removed from our body, process of metabolism is slower down. The situation becomes worse, if you stick to same diet pattern and amount after quitting smoking. You body can not assimilate them completely and as a result weight gain starts. Nicotine has a direct impact on your appetite. Consumption on nicotine stimulates the activity of serotonin and dopamine. These substances contribute towards transmission of signals regarding appetite to brain. That regulates your appetite. Smoking reduces appetite and after quitting it, your appetite is increased. Hence, it can add to weight gain. Another important reason in this regard is many people consume food for several times when they have an urge to smoke. All these lead to weight gain. |
