Important Facts about Lobelia for Quitting

Lobelia inflata is a perennial remedy herb found around the Native Americans.  It is a substitute to tobacco as it has the same taste and smell as tobacco itself. Its main benefit is that it cures ailments occupying the lungs. It helps in removing infections from the respiratory system and has a soothing effect on the bronchial tubes, throat and lungs. Lobelia is most often given for asthma treatment.  The main ingredient found in Lobelia inflata is lobeline and this lowers dopemine levels in the human body. Therefore it can be useful in treating drug addictions and helping smokers quit cigarettes. It’s available in both liquid extracts and in capsules containing the dried herb. When quitting it reduces the chance of failures and at the same time help to recover from further infection.

But it has also some disadvantages concerning its usage. It can be toxic when administered in large doses. The suggested daily amount of 20 mgs should never be exceeded. As ingesting over 500 mgs a day can prove to be fatal. Thus some of its common side effects include dry mouth, heart burn, stomach pain, dizziness and nausea.
